  • Check your credit report: Check if the account shows up as being in "collections" on your credit report.
  • Know your state's SOL: Find out what the Statute of Limitations (SOL) is in your state. If the SOL has expired, then the CA cannot take you to court. If you've relocated to another state, the SOL of the state where your debt originated may apply.
  • Request a validation: If you're not certain whether you owe the money or not, then ask the CA to validate your debt. Learn more about debt validation.
  • Pay in full or work out a settlement: If the CA sends you enough proof that you owe the debt, you should negotiate a payment plan or work out a settlement where you can pay less than you owe.

What if you don't owe money to the collection agency?

If you do not owe the money, you should send the CA a Cease and Desist letter stating that you have already paid the bill. If they continue making harassing calls, file a complaint with your State Attorney General and the FTC.

Is a debt collection agency with collectors on hand but the majority of their accounts are sent to 3rd parties and the agreements are why they transfer you to the other company

This company has been doing this for years. Until one of you take action to stop them, they will continue to scam the system. They buy old, old debt for less than .01 cents on the dollar, add countless amounts of interest to inflate the balance, and then send the accounts out to collection agencies to collect on their behalf in an attempt to shelter themselves from the legal ramifications. The CEO has made millions on people like you who are intimidated by the unenforcable threats of lawsuits. They have a lawyer, Seiler & Associates who shares office space with them at their same address, 7900 Hwy 7, St. Louis PK, MN. Someone who has been contacted by them needs to hire an attorney to file a class action lawsuit and contact the Federal Trade Commission and the Minnesota Attorney General, Lori Swanson, and the Minnesota Dept. of Commerce to stop this from continuing !

You can go to add all you phone numbers and if they contact you again you can fill out a complaint through the do not call list and they will take legal action against them! :) I love the do not call list.

Thank you all for sharing your experience in the forums! I have learnt a lot from all of these as I'm even dealing with the same company.

This company is fake, well they use the name of a real firm but they are criminals. I got a bunch of calls threatening to sue, I got a letter about a debt that is not mine(faek I assume), all from the same criminals. They get lists of people in collection, they forge a debt similiar to something you really owe, they set the trap and hope to snare poor scare people. Class Action law suite would be nice but since the phone numbers are just redirects to an out of the country criminal org there is nothing to be done.

Thank you everyone for the posts. I just checked my credit report and noticed them on my report. I have no idea what the original company was. I have never received phone calls or letters in regard to this debt. Glad I am not the only one. Thanks for the numbers.
