I am a newbie. I received an email and phone call to my office from Westbury Venture Mr. Featherston. States that they gave me a $300.00 loan and that I now owe $480.00. Not sure if I do woe this - I have used a payday loan service before and I would never again do it but meanwhile I do not know this company and Mr. Featherston would not give me more info about who he represents but told me that if I did not call him and pay the $430 (giving me a $50.00 discount) that I would be prosecuted for internet fraud. How dare they. If I owe a debt I will pay it. I asked that all communications be in writing. I asked for a copy of the contract or agreement that I signed. I got nowhere with him. He said they will not contact me by mail but that I have to call them to settle this? Help. (I see there were posts like this last year about Westbury Ventures)
By signing up a debt counseling session, your provided details (Name, Email ID and Phone No.) will be forwarded to the company advertising on the DebtCC. However, you have no obligation to use their services.
Some creditors and collection agencies refuse to lower the payoff amount, interest rate, and fees owed by the consumer.
Creditors/collection agencies can make collection calls and file lawsuits against the consumers represented by the debt relief companies.
Debt relief services may have a negative impact on the consumer's creditworthiness and his overall debt amount may increase due to the accumulation of extra fees.
The amount which the consumer saves with the use of debt relief services can be regarded as taxable income.
