I remember back in the 70's with the gas shortage and they lowered the speed limit to 55 I believe then. I personally think they should reduce the speed limit back down to 55 to help people out with the high price of gas.

Does anyone else agree with me? I personally think that 75 mph is way too fast, especially if your car has broken down and you are sitting on the side of the interstate and idiots are flying by doing more than the speed limit  .

Sorry, I admit that i'm a speeder.

I say if you want to go 55, that's okay; pull in the right lane and you can go 55. I don't think everyone should have to because you want to.

In all honesty, would lowering the speed limit really make people drive slower? Not really, there'll just be more tickets issued. Heck, there's already a 45 mph limit in construction zones, and people still fly through at 80.

I agree about lowering the speed limit on highways and freeways near and through cities, but out in the middle of nowhere it should be 65 or 70. I still drive 55 even if the limit is higher, I just can't afford to drive fast as it sucks up your gas!

Where I work at in Texas you would get flattened driving 55.I drive 75 out of town areas to keep up with traffic & still get passed. My little Nissan truck thankfully is still good on gas.

75  you can drive 75? here it is 65 but the big trucking company drivers can only go 62 they say it will save their company a couple million dollars a year. I also am a speeder  But my explorer sits (except for going to work) if we go anywhere we use hubby Ram. It is soooooo much better on gas than the Explorer. I can't wait until I can get rid of that POS. Don't get me wrong it is a good truck but it is getting old and is starting to have problems that I just don't want to fix. One problem is going to cost us almost $1000 to fix. So I figure drive it less and I just may get a better trade in price for it. Hubby's truck has to get paid off before I can go car shopping. But I am not sure that I want to go back to a car :? With living is Wisconsin and going up to the cabin in the winter I need something bigger that can go through all the snow. So I just may have to put up with paying the price for gas.

The truckers are getting killed by the cost of deisel. Making them get to their destinations later will cost them even more money. They need to operate at a faster speed to be efficient on fuel also especially in hilly areas. I am not for returning to the double nickels of the 70s. "looks like we got us a convoy"

Many people I know are trying to drive 55, but then they get tailgated even in the slow lane.

Speed limits don't matter on interstates. People in MO fly down them at 20+ miles about the posted speed limit, and there are no cops. I heard they won't pull people over on interstates, because it's too dangerous. So, that's how laws are sometimes meaningless.
