Is investing in a mutual fund safe? How will I select a mutual fund that will be profitable?

Yes, it is safer than stock investment. However, if you are new, consult an advisor.

What is your goal? Do you want to get dividends every month? Do you want to get tax deductions? Do you want to get a lump sum after a 15 or 20 years? You can choose mutual funds accordingly.

You must do a a little research and understand your objectives and risk tolerance. If you follow this bit of due diligence before selecting a fund, you will increase your chances of success.
