I'm currently in the process of buying a home. Two days ago a Medical bill appeared on my credit as a collection. I had went to the ER in July 2013 and thought I had paid all my bills. This one was not paid. I contacted the collector and explained my situation. I was informed that the collection agency WILL NOT remove it from my report even if I paid it in full. They did offer to mark the account as paid. If marked as paid will the account still effect my score? Can a medical bill be reported?

A medical bill can definately be reported, but I think that having it showing up on a credit report as being paid is certainly better than it still showing as not paid and charged off. Perhaps if this is the only negative item on your credit report you can discuss this with potential lenders?
