Do I need to put the account # on debt validation letter. Thanks

No, you don't need to...
Some debt validation letters are sent before any credit reporting or receiving of any dunning notice.
If you don't have either a credit reporting or dunning notice, then your full name and address, along with the name of the OC should do the work perfectly.

Why do want to send the debt validation letter in the first place?

You should ask the collection agency to validate the debt with the account details.
