Hey all,

I know that most debt settlements made with a collection agency involve a lump sum -- like $2000 to settle a $4000 debt.

Is it possible to negotiate a settlement AND payment plan with an agency? In other words, $2000 for a $4000 debt paid over 12 months at $167/month?

Absolutely but it may take some real negotiating on your point. Remember, the whole reason the account is with a collection agency is because you failed to make the payments you agreed to make with the original creditor so you can understand what collectors don't see this as a great option for them.
